Alkira Boatshed was established by Phil and Margaret Heaney. The land on which the business occupies was originally purchased as a vacant lot with the Heaney's first building the workshop designed specifically for wooden boat building, this was then followed by the concrete hardstand.

Alkira has now been operating as a boat restoration and maintenance yard for 25 years and in that time they have built and restored many yachts, steamboats, launches, cruisers and workboats.

This long range cruiser was built at Alkira Boatshed and launched in 2002. Argos was designed and built by Phil Heaney. Phil and Margaret spent 8 years onboard circumnavigating the globe before arriving back to Lake Macquarie in 2010.
